First Year Of Teen Mums Ends With A Splash!

Since beginning in October 2016, the Teen Mums’ group has transitioned from new starts and unknowns, to a comfortable, relaxed, support network. Friendships have blossomed between the Mums, the babies, and with us. This past week was another great time together when we had a summer baby pool party! It was lovely to all meet up again since term ended in June and to catch up with the Mums, to relax, and to laugh together at the kids’ enjoyment of splashing in the water! Their joy was contagious!

Since January, the girls have been learning about “Who is Jesus?” from Bible readings and sharing personal stories. They have loved being creative and making various different crafty pieces; and we’ve all learnt lots of new information and skills from Jo, a nurse from Australia, about health hygiene, how to professionally decorate cupcakes with Tina from America, and about health and nutrition from one of the hospital nurses, which the nurse and the girls enjoyed so much they want to do it again! We have also welcomed two new babies to the group and attended a wedding of one of the Mums!

We have five Mums who are attending regularly, and with their now 8 babies and toddlers, we are at capacity for the space we have available. But this has allowed close relationships to form within the group which has been so special.

The group will begin meeting again weekly in September and we are looking forward to sharing more with the Mums and babies together. Please pray at this time for health and safety for all of the Mums and babies over the summer, for faith to continue growing for the girls, for wisdom for us as we begin to plan for the next year and for relationships to continue flourishing.

We have had so much support through donations, prayer and volunteers for this group this past year. We, including the Mums, are so grateful!

Can you imagine having 2 children by the age of 17?

photo-2A few months ago God placed in my mind and heart a vision for setting up a group for teenage Mums from Budila village, a space with 2 rooms where we could set up a ‘mother and toddler group’ style group with toys, crafts, bible stories and songs, and snacks in one room and a ‘baby health clinic’ in the other room with baby weigh scales, a baby thermometer and baby baths for the babies to be bathed in a warm, dry, clean place esp. during the winter months. Alongside this, we could have discussion times with the young Mums about topics such as baby health, child development, feeding, sleeping, bonding, as well as encouraging the Mums in interacting with their babies, helping them form healthy attachments and providing their babies with the right care and stimulation they need. Furthermore, we could encourage the development of the Mums themselves, as Mums, as young women, in their education, and in their faith.

I’m so humbled to say it seems this vision is becoming reality as we visited Budila village to deliver invites to numerous Mums aged between 12 and 19 years old inviting them to join us with their babies on Tuesday!!

Please join us in prayer as we set out to begin this group, for:

  • The invites to reach the right girls for the group, and for the removal of barriers which might prevent them from attending;
  • Wisdom for all of us involved in planning and running the group, in seeing and meeting the needs of the Mums and their babies;
  • Positive relationships to be built between the whole group from the start;
  • For God’s will to be done, and for His glory to be revealed through the group.

I praise God for setting this vision in my heart and for the ways it has come together this far, and am excited to see what is to come next as we meet the precious girls and their babies!

Shampoo to the Rescue

We’ve all been there – you walk into your hotel room, take a look around, is there a fridge? What about a safe? How about an iron or a hair dryer? The hotel you book will determine the amenities that come with it.

One thing is almost always constant, however, and those are the travel size shampoos, conditioners, soaps and lotions that come nicely wrapped in your hotel bathroom.

Whether or not you decide to use these items or pack them up and save them for later matters not, they are a hot commodity simply because they are handy and easy to bring along.

We’re going to let you in on a little secret, though. Those soaps, shampoos, lotions and conditioners are the perfect size for the bundles we put together for our Mom’s Project.

Maybe you don’t use the toiletry items provided, or maybe you pack them thinking you’ll use them later but simply end up with a stockpile that you don’t know what to do with. We’re asking that you consider us the next time these convenient shampoos and soaps come in to your possession.

If you are interested in donating these travel size items to Firm Foundations Romania to be used in the bundles that we hand out to the mothers in our Mom’s Project, please contact Heather   Zorzi at:
