My second school year as the After School Program Manager is coming to an end and things are winding down. As I look back over this year I am humbled and blessed at how much the Lord has done in the lives of the 120 children we have worked with. Seeing children, many of whom have parents who do not know how to read and write, learn how to read, write, and do math is such a huge victory! More importantly knowing that each day a child is with us they will sing songs and hear stories from the Bible which can have an eternal impact on their lives, brings such hope to carry on. Hearing a child quote a Bible memory verse from this past December, shows me that God’s Word is being hidden in their little hearts, and our prayer is that seeds that have been planted will grow and be fruitful.
We have begun the cleaning out process in our small storage room in Budila. At the beginning of this school year we were very blessed to be able to pass out a pencil, crayons and notebooks to each child in the program to an individual “school kit.” During the year in conjunction with our Points Program, the children were able to “buy” the school supplies they needed from us with the points they had earned for learning Bible memory verses and doing their homework. We also began the year with enough creative supplies to last us until now. Those items were lovingly donated to Firm Foundations Romania from all over the US and Europe. Money was also specifically donated to buy teaching materials and the proper size of school notebooks (these are different from the ones used in the US and other parts of Europe). We would not be able to do what we do without the help of those who sponsor and support our ministry work!
As the year is winding down our resources are running low. If you are interested in helping to provide for the 2016-2017 school year here are some items we are in need of:
- Colored pencils
- Writing pencils (mechanical and wooden)
- Blue ink pens
- Craft supplies
- A4 copy paper
- Pencil sharpeners (for each child, and a good quality one for each classroom)
- Dry erase markers and dry erase board cleaner
- School supplies, such as backpacks, pencils cases, scissors, etc.
- Coloring books
- Colored construction paper
- Financial donations to be able to be able to buy the proper size of notebooks, and teaching materials.
