Improving the educational attainment of young Roma is critically important to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
FFR runs a Kids Club Program for children ages 3-6 and an After School Program for students between 1st and 8th grade. Currently over 140 students are enrolled in FFR’s educational programs.
Why are the Roma children in Romania struggling to receive an education?

80% of Roma families live at risk of poverty.
Many Roma children lack a strong early learning and care support mechanism at home. The vast majority of Roma children grow up in poverty without easy access to the basic necessities like water, electricity, or proper shelter.

Roma parents have minimal levels of education.
Without anyone at home to help with homework, children fall behind in their school studies at a young age and have a hard time ever catching up.

School dropout is extremely high among Roma students.
In Romania, 77% of young Roma are leaving school before completing upper secondary education (high school or vocational training).
How is FFR helping to empower these children to succeed?

Education is key to a child’s future and a bridge to better employment opportunities.
FFR’s programs offer a safe and encouraging environment, where children receive help with their homework and develop basic skills like reading, writing and math. Our teachers eagerly support and encourage the kids to stay in school and continue their education through high school.

It’s not just homework. It’s learning and growing in community.
It’s not just homework. It’s learning and growing in community. Flip: The children learn to politely interact with one another and have the opportunity to practice life skills that were previously unknown to them, like health and hygiene practices, gardening skills, and developing IT competencies to help them succeed in a digital world.

“For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
The children in our educational programs learn who God is and how much He loves them. Through songs and interactive Bible lessons, the children learn that God loves them abundantly, and that He has a plan for each of their lives.
“The After School Program is not just a place where children come and do their homework; it’s like a second home for them, a second family. They find a place where they can grow and learn in community and experience the joy of God. You can really tell the difference between our kids and the other kids in the village.”
